About BHKF

The Bangladesh Hijra Kallyan Foundation (BHKF) is a pioneering non-profit organization founded in 1999 to uplift and advocate for the rights of the hijra community in Bangladesh. Hijras, individuals assigned male at birth but who identify and live as women, face entrenched societal discrimination and marginalization. BHKF addresses these challenges comprehensively, offering a range of services including healthcare, education, vocational training, and legal aid. Their healthcare initiatives focus on providing essential services tailored to hijras' needs, such as HIV/AIDS prevention, hormone therapy, and mental health support. Education programs aim to equip hijras with skills and knowledge, combating the barriers they face in accessing formal education. Vocational training enhances their economic empowerment, reducing reliance on informal work like begging. Through advocacy efforts, BHKF challenges stereotypes and prejudices, fostering a more inclusive society. They engage with policymakers to ensure hijras' concerns are addressed in laws and policies, striving for a Bangladesh where all individuals, regardless of gender identity, can live with dignity and respect.

Our Vision

We envision a Bangladesh where the Hijra community is celebrated as an integral part of society, where they have access to equitable opportunities, healthcare, education, and legal protections. Our vision is of a society that embraces diversity, where every individual, regardless of gender identity, can live with dignity, equality, and without fear of discrimination. Through our efforts, we aim to create lasting social change, building a future where all individuals are valued and respected for who they are.
